Finacial Inclusion
“Financial Inclusion” is closely linked to Social Inclusion as without money, many people are unable to play a full part in what many of us take for granted like basic banking facilities, good health and a better quality of life. The Government is investing a huge amount of money to enable people to have savings, assets, access to low cost loans, life insurance and pensions. The Government has announced a huge support for 3rd sector lenders who are prepared to work towards a number of goals. Credit Unions will be looking to involve other organisations in partnerships and LASA has already started the process.
The City and County of Swansea have supplied funding for Financial Inclusion Outreach Workers at LASA to take Financial Inclusion work forward.
The B.I.F.I. (Be Involved in Financial Inclusion) Club is a new club for our Growing Savers and we are hoping to open in a local primary school soon. It will encourage youngsters to save for the future and will give them a bit extra money at the end of the year. There will be an opportunity to learn about saving and have fun at the same time. Parents, family and friends can join as full members of LASA.
This will be a pilot for the rest of the City and County of Swansea and further funding is being sought for this scheme and another at a local secondary school.
Money management is an area that LASA hopes to be involved in and we are working with the Basic Skills Agency, schools, CAB, CAP and other businesses to take this forward.
